Brussels Airport - Welcome to Europe

Located at the heart of Europe, with excellent accessibility, Brussels Airport is the preferred starting point for those looking to discover the continent for business and leisure alike.

Situated at the centre heart of western Europe, Brussels Airport has a wide catchment area incorporating all of Belgium, the south of the Netherlands and the north-eastern part of France. Almost 20 million people live within 1.5 hours drive of the airport.

Being a multi-modal hub in the middle of the continent, travellers enjoy fast road and train connections to and from Brussels Airport with direct services to and from many major cities all over Belgium. It is also conveniently located on the Brussels Ring Road and offers more than 12,500 parking spaces opposite the terminal building.

Over 60 passenger airlines operate from the three runways at Brussels Airport, which is fully slot-coordinated, but still provides ample room for growth, and an enviable track record in terms of efficiency and punctuality.

In 2012, Brussels Airport welcomed 19 million passengers, of which 16% were connecting while 84% had the airport as their origin or final destination.

A mix of business, leisure and local travellers

Brussels Airport passengers have a broad profile, ranging from the high-yield business travel of political institutions, the major multinationals based in the European Capital and large expatriate communities providing a significant VFR market, to an affluent catchment area generating strong leisure demand. Moreover, almost 300,000 Belgians live abroad. These people highly value a reliable connection with their home base.

A tempting commercial offer

At Brussels Airport, you can find a large and unique offering of shops and eat-and-drink opportunities, including some award-winning concepts, and globally known labels and brands such as Starbucks, Desigual, Massimo Dutti, Tommy Hilfiger and River Woods. Parking spaces are located near the departure hall and there is a broad range of parking schemes adapted to travellers' needs.

One of Europe's major tourist draws

As the home of Victor Horta and art nouveau, Brussels features a wide variety of architectural masterpieces. You can take a stroll across the beautiful Grand Place or visit one of the city's 80 museums, not to mention the illustrious Manneken Pis or the fascinating Atomium.

Outside Brussels, Belgium has a wealth of interesting cities and villages to visit, including the Diamond Capital Antwerp and the medieval gems Ghent and Bruges. In addition, Belgium is known for its military heritage, which includes famous sites such as Waterloo, Flanders' Fields and Bastogne.

Finally, who can resist Belgium's delicacies? An abundance of gorgeous chocolates, freshly baked waffles and refreshing Belgian beer await you.

Building for the future

Brussels Airport is improving its infrastructure with an innovative project called 'The Connector'. This building will allow passengers to walk straight from the check-in desk, via a central screening platform, to their gate in pier A or B, all without changing floors. For arriving passengers, the new building will provide smooth and efficient access to the baggage reclaim hall and the exit.

The total surface of 32,850m2 will form the new heart of the airport at a total budgeted cost of €71 million.

Work started in April this year and will be finished by the first quarter of 2015. Those interested can follow the progress live online.

Brussels Airport was the proud overall winner of the 2012 World Routes Award. The aviation marketing team is at your call to provide market studies, up-to-date analyses, survey-based passenger profiles and much more, to support your operation in Brussels.
