ICAO forms taskforce to tackle conflict zones threat to safety

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) met in Montreal on Tuesday 29th July with the directors general of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Airports Council International (ACI) and the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO), to discuss the risks of conflict zones to civil aviation.

EC-funded airport eco system gets Italian trial

A software and sensor system for airports that claims to reduce carbon emissions and energy costs by 20% is being piloted in Rome and Milan. Cascade, a join project undertaken by Germany, Italy, Ireland and Serbia and funded by the European Commission, aims to save Fiumicino and Malpensa airports at least 6000MW per hour, which equates to 42,000 tons of CO2 and €840,000 annually.

Bids open for New Kansai International Airport

Bidding will open in October for the operating rights to the New Kansai International Airport, in Osaka, Japan, after the government approved plans to sell to the private sector.

Offered together with the rights for the smaller sized Osaka International Airport (Itami Airport), the 45-year license, is expected to exceed two trillion yen at sale.

Passenger numbers sky high at Jordan’s QAIA

Year to date passenger traffic in the first half of the year at Queen Alia International Airport, Jordan rose by 12.94% to 3,576,262, according to statistics released by Airport International Group (AIG).

Aircraft movement also rose 8.59% during the period, January-June 2014, to 36,049.
