A US firm building a supersonic jet says it intends to replace cabin windows with display screens embedded in the wall.
Spike Aerospace based in Boston, US, claims that drag on the S-512 supersonic jet will be reduced by removing windows. It plans to surround the aircraft with cameras and display the views on the cabin screens. Passengers will be able to dim the screens or change the images.
The S-512, which is not expected to launch until 2018, is being heralded as the world’s first supersonic business jet. Predicted to cost $80 million (£48 million), the aircraft will carry 18 passengers and Spike Aerospace claims it will be able to fly from New York to London in just three to four hours.
It will have a cruising speed of Mach 1.6 and a maximum speed of Mach 1.8.
