Terminal design competition won by Zaha Hadid Architects and Cox Architecture

6 November 2019

Zaha Hadid Architects and the Sydney-based Cox Architecture have been named as the winning designers for the terminal precinct at the new Western Sydney International Airport, which is scheduled to open in 2026 and serve 10 million passengers annually. The design was chosen from over 40 entries and has been commended for its sense of place and sustainability.

“The brief was to design an airport that the people of Western Sydney can be proud of and provide a real sense of place that pays tribute to the natural landforms, history and features of Greater Sydney,” said Western Sydney Airport chief executive officer Graham Millett.

“While the exterior of the terminal complements the natural landscape beautifully, we’ve always said that our focus was on the customer journey within the terminal and that really shines through in these concept designs.”
