Proposed Drones Bill for UK

15 January 2019

In the wake of flight chaos caused by drone activity at Gatwick before Christmas, the UK government has proposed giving police greater powers to deal with drone misuse in a response to a consultation on the issue. A Drones Bill, to be brought forward in 2019, will give police the ability to request evidence from drone operators when there is suspicion of an offence being committed and the power to issue fixed penalty notices for minor offences. With a warrant, police would be able to enter homes and also seize drones themselves. Greater exclusion zones around airports and runways have also been suggested.
