6 September 2019

A study by website Upgrade Points has ranked the 25 busiest airports by total passengers boarding in the United States by the time it takes for passengers to get through TSA security checkpoints. The data used to compile the study was taken from the TSA’s historical data for 2018.

The worst offender is Newark International in New Jersey, with an average wait time for travellers of 23.1 minutes – which rises to an hour wait for those going through security at the busiest time, between 12pm and 1pm on Mondays. Long average waits were also found at George Bush Intercontinental  in Houston, Texas (19.8 minutes) and Miami International (19.6 minutes). The speediest security queues were found at Salt Lake City International, with an average wait time of just 9.1 minutes.
