Exel Composites Plc - Exel Composites Plc

Exel Composites Plc is the world's leading manufacturer of composites profiles and, as one of the applications, frangible supports structures for airports. Since 1988, Exel have supplied frangible support structures to more than 600 airports around the world, from the world's busiest air traffic centres like London Heathrow or Singapore Changi to regional airports on all continents.

Proven Frangibility

Exel's composite supports are in full compliance with all current ICAO's and FAA's frangibility ruling with no ifs, buts or short cuts. Frangibility of the products has been proven by dynamic full scale impact tests supported with data simulations. The best known application for Exel's frangible airport products may be poles and lattice masts for elevated approach lights and weather observation systems, but the portfolio covers also ILS Localizer supports and ILS Glide Path Towers as well as frangible fencing.

Approach lighting masts and poles

Exel Approach Lighting support structures consist of poles for single lights and lattice masts for multiple lights. The lights can be installed from 25 cm to 50+ meters at the highest. These structures are made of thin wall composites tubes, resulting to finished products with essential features like light weight, rigidity, frangibility and corrosion resistance in all climatic and weather conditions.

ILS support structures

Exel support structures for localizers are frangibility tested and ICAO-approved. Both pole and lattice structures are used to support localizers depending on the installation height. The GP-towers´ modular fiberglass structure is similar to approach masts, resulting in high stability under wind load. The towers are equipped with mounting arrangement for all antenna brands, a lightning arrester, ladder and lifeline as well as an obstruction light.

Fencing

Exel frangible fences are made for securing individual installations on public areas that require frangible structures as well as fencing that crosses the approach line. Exel frangible fence has been impact tested to verify frangibility. The maximum height of the fence is 2,2 meters and colored either aviation yellow or red-white.

Weather masts

The support structures for weather observation equipment - such as wind direction indicators, anemometers, transmissometers and forward scatter meters - comprise of poles and lattice masts, all ADM6 compliant. The structures are painted orange-white or red-white according to ICAO's Annex 14.
