Bechtel to manage construction of Western Sydney Airport

Bechtel, a company involved in project management, engineering, procurement and construction, has been selected by WSA as its delivery partner and project manager for the Western Sydney Airport, a $5.3bn greenfield facility in Badgerys Creek, New South Wales, Australia.

The project is due for completion at the end of 2026, reports World Construction Network.

Western Sydney Airport will provide additional aviation capacity to meet growing demand in the Sydney basin and is expected to improve access to flights for people in Western Sydney.

The international and domestic airport, one of Australia’s major infrastructure projects in decades, will open in 2026, bringing social and economic prosperity to the Western Sydney region.

Earlier, Bechtel had delivered complex projects in Australia, including the provision of delivery partner services for the tunnels and stations excavation package for Sydney Metro, City and Southwest project in New South Wales, and several mining and liquefied natural gas mega-projects delivered at Curtis Island, Queensland and Wheatstone, Western Australia.

In June 2018, Bechtel was selected by Port Arthur LNG, a wholly owned affiliate of Sempra LNG & Midstream, as the EPC contractor for the Port Arthur liquefaction project in Texas, US.

The company will carry out the engineering, execution planning and related activities for preparing and finalising a lump sum EPC contract for the project.

The proposed project has been designed to include two natural gas liquefaction trains to enable the long-term sale of 11mtpa of LNG; feed gas pre-treatment facilities; natural gas liquids and refrigerant storage; three LNG storage tanks; two marine berths and associated facilities.
