AAI approves extension of additional taxiway at Mangaluru International Airport

16 June 2016

The Board of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has approved the extension of the taxiway under construction at Mangaluru International Airport.

Work on the original 1,200m taxiway began in August 2014 and is expected to be completed in the next two months. The AAI board has now approved plans to double it to 2,400m.

The new taxiway will help aircraft to save time when entering and exiting the parking stand to the runway. At present, aircraft that are ready to take off have to wait 10-15 minutes if their departure timing clashes with a flight that is scheduled to land.

The additional taxiway will help in the long run when the number of flights increases in the airport. Work on the project may start as soon as January 2017.
