Vanderlande Industries has officially signed the contract with Shanghai Airport Authority to supply the new baggage handling system for Terminal 1 at Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

In expectation of future growth, Pudong Airport decided to modify the existing Baggage handling system in terminal 1. The Airport was impressed by the high quality solution of Vanderlande Industries offered. The first terminal of Pudong Airport, built from green-field in 1997 grew fast in recent years. It reached a passenger flow of 44.8 million and ranked the no. 3 airport in China in 2012. Vanderlande Industries supplied the carousels for the existing Baggage handling system Terminal 1 in 1997.

Shanghai Airport Authority is the state-owned enterprise directly under the leadership of Shanghai Municipal Government, and operates both Shanghai Pudong International and Hongqiao International Airport. Vanderlande Industries was also the supplier of the baggage handling system for the new terminal at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport in 2008.

Vanderlande Industries expects to finish the project within the limited time and simultaneously keep the Baggage handling system in Terminal 1 operational. It is the first project to modify such a large baggage handling system in Chinese Airports. The system is expected to go live in April 2015.
