DATA MODUL is showcasing the first large and industrially usable display with cutting-edge transparent OLED technology at Passenger Terminal Expo on 15-17 March in Cologne, Germany.
The 55in device allows for the display of dynamic content on a transparent surface glass, opening up a wide variety of new and innovative applications for industrial clients.
The transparent OLED display is ideal for applications meant to catch the eye such as POS and POI. The content is displayed on a transparent OLED module, while the user can simultaneously see an object behind the device. Black or dark content on the screen is clear and white or bright content is opaque. Using this effect, products behind the display screen can be covered, explained and/or enhanced by the content shown.
OLED is the acronym for Organic Light Emitting Diode. OLEDs are self-emitting and do not require an additional light source. In contrast to the common display technologies, the OLED technology eliminates the need for an enclosure and backlight. Moreover, compared to LC-displays, the lightweight OLED can be manufactured with a much lower depth. The OLED's image reproduction is more even than that of LC-displays and the level of contrast is considerably higher.
The transparent OLED has a depth of only 1.6mm (0.06in). To increase the robustness of the display device, DATA MODUL offers the option of optical bonding with fully customized cover glasses. As well as ensuring shock- and vibration resistance of the display module, this process also further enhances the optical brilliance.
As an option DATA MODUL's clients can choose PCAP (projected capacitive touch) functionality by use of mash-up sensors. Due to the high-class bonding, integration in customized frames or enclosures is not required - but is possible.
Applications include large closets or wardrobes, refrigerators, POS/POI, and the display of content on glass panels, product vitrines, product presentations, showrooms, and advertising in shop windows.
