NG AVIATION - Transition towards data-driven airside operations

Airside operations play a crucial role in the airport environment. The digital transformation of aeronautical and aerodrome information is more commonly being supported by data-driven systems like A-SGMCS, airside tracker, ground control, aeronautical information management and others. The use of smart algorithms and AI has the potential to increase safety, reduce costs, improve efficiency and optimise processes.

Well-engineered information management, therefore, plays an indispensable role in airport operations. With continuously increasing traffic and expanding airport activities, aeronautical information automatisation is becoming critical. New legislative requirements, such as ICAO DOC 9137, the new ICAO Annex 14 and Annex 15, Eurcoae ED-99B/RTCA DO-272B or Eurcoae ED-98 C/RTCA DO-276C, are a vital driver of the digitisation of aeronautical and aerodrome information. With this in mind, NG AVIATION brings airport operators just the right tool.

Under the name NG-AIME (New Generation Aeronautical Information Management Environment), NG AVIATION offers a unique platform for the digitisation of aeronautical data that allows users to manage safety-critical data and optimise existing processes. NG-AIME is based on the AIXM 5.1 data format, recommended by the International Civil Aviation Organization, EUROCONTROL and the Federal Aviation Administration.

NG-AIME Software Suite is a ready-made, easy-to-use application for aeronautical and aerodrome data creation with automatic validation that allows users to import, edit and share non-corrupted data with all relevant aviation stakeholders, in AIXM 5.1 format. Visual representation of aeronautical information, along with time and geographical reference, is among the most significant benefits of NG-AIME, ending the era of analogue-based coded data sharing.

Information sharing in the digital environment gives users a benefit of increased efficiency, predictability and overall situational awareness, leading to better safety and access to stored aeronautical data in one centralised database.

Interoperability with other aviation stakeholders plays an important role in information sharing, which can be achieved using uniform data formats. The airside operation systems should benefit from the AIXM 5.1 and related data formats, such as GML (geographical mark-up language - designed for exchanging the geographical data). The NG-AIME system supports the full implementation of system-wide information management (SWIM) and follows these principles, preliminary for the use of aeronautical data.

Integrated time-planning features for activities on all manoeuvring and movement areas gives airside operations a perfect ool to work with. The advanced scheduler options allows users to create areas of interest with their exact geographical reference and enables planning of future operations (for example, work area, closed runways and taxiways, aircraft stand close, ground light system availability).

Use of NG-AIME on smart personal devices allows realtime aerodrome monitoring and hazard/incident reporting. The application enables digital data and the associated metadata to be exchanged securely, from origination through to publication.

With NG-AIME, the Digital NOTAM in AIXM 5.1 data format is no longer a dream. Digital NOTAM is made available through more advanced communication networks (like AMHS or TypeX). Intended to be read and processed by automated systems, Digital NOTAMs presents graphical information to the pilot or to the air traffic controller.

NG-AIME obstacle management prevents airports from becoming affected by the growth of obstacles. Users are able to create, manage, and publish obstacle information for all ICAO obstacle areas effectively and visually. The security of data handling is improved by conducting automatic error-detection and security checks using the most advanced validation and verification techniques.

The airside tracker based on the AIXM 5.1 data supports collecting, recording, actioning and generating feedback about hazards in operations, based on the digital data collection. Visual representation and photo reporting reduce human errors and vastly improve safety. Ensuring that all relevant airside hazards are identified and managed requires a collaborative approach between the aerodrome operator and all organisations operating at airside, as identified by A-CDM concept.
