Technology for Passenger Guiding in Sweden - Kaba
Enhancing security in passageways between air and landside is one of the key issues concerning airport security.
To optimise the guiding of the growing number of passengers, airports require reliable, yet comfortable solutions.
Following the terms of the Schengen Agreement, arriving passengers at airports are guided into Schengen or non-Schengen areas of the terminal. During this procedure, passenger flows should not mix up.
The Swedish airport authorities were aware of these new requirements at a very early stage. It was their demands that encouraged Kaba to develop a suitable solution for efficient passenger guiding. The German specialist for access control technology mastered the challenge – the result was the Orthos PIL-M02, a modular one-way corridor which enables a fast and safe passage from the air to the landside. The corridor consists of a lane divided into different security sectors by means of full-height and half-height swing doors.
SMOOTH, BARRIER-FREE AND SAFE PASSENGER PASSAGEWAYS
After landing the passengers are guided from the airside to the baggage claim area through the one-way corridors with anti-return function. When passengers cross the unit, the doors open automatically one after the other. If no more passengers follow, they close again automatically.
A smooth, barrier-free passage is guaranteed, even for those with bulky hand luggage, wheelchairs or prams, while a sophisticated system of sensors detects people crossing in the opposite direction. At the same time the units provide a high level of safety - no person can be injured by the door leafs or locked in.
KABA ONE WAY CORRIDORS IN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORTS
Arlanda – the leading airport in Scandinavia, with 18.3million passengers a year - was a pioneer in the application of this technology - eleven one-way corridors are already in operation. In Gothenburg, several units were installed recently. Smaller Swedish airports, like Malmö and Umeå, also rely on this technology for passenger guiding.
Kaba one-way corridors are also successfully in operation in other European airports, such as Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hanover, Copenhagen, Luxembourg, Manchester and Malaga.
